In order to meet the ever-changing requirements for medical devices, the European Commission, Parliament and Council and other institutions have conducted lengthy negotiations and agreed to a compromise on the comprehensive reform of medical device laws and regulations.
The new text was published as a regulation and directly applicable law on May 5, 2017. The new 2017/745 MDR (Medical Device Regulation) will replace the Medical Device Directive (MDD 93/42, EEC).

Due to the impact of the COVID-19, the application date of the MDR regulations has been postponed from May 26, 2020 to May 26, 2021.
