Category I: Simple products. For areas of 'minimal risk' which are not suitable to protect against any form of hazard. Such products are self-certified.
Category II: Intermediate products. For areas of specific risk i.e. mechanical risk. Such products will have CE type test against European test methods and certificate by a notified body.
Category III: Complex products. For areas/applications than can seriously or irreversibly harm the health. Such products, in addition to the CE type test, will also have to be either produced under an approved quality system or be tested on an annual basis.
